Swan Song – Robert McCammon’s Magnum Opus
posted July 22, 2008 - 1:49amOften compared to Stephen King’s “The Stand,” Robert McCammon’s “Swan Song
” stands on it’s own as an original and truly engaging apocalyptic epic! (These are two of my all-time favorite novels.)
The comparison to King’s monster hit, “The Stand,” comes from the similarities of being an epic set in post-apocalyptic America and documenting the ensuing migration and quest of characters driven by the forces of good and evil. McCammon’s strong character development and his writing style, creates a thrilling masterpiece which is hard to put down.
Characters such as, a monster of a professional wrestler who was known in the ring as Black Frankenstein, Sister Creep a New York City bag-lady, Colonel Macklin a former war-hero and his sidekick Roland, and of course the “Good,” a young girl dubbed “The Swan” and the “Bad,” and evil shape-shifter , the “Man with the Scarlet Eye” all develop in the aftermath of nuclear war.
Anyone who enjoys “The Stand” will also enjoy McCammon’s “Swan Song.” In this 950-page epic journey through the wasteland of post-nuclear war America, mutations and horror stories of insanity and violence abound as the battle between good and evil begin.
Robert McCammon’s other works include:
Boy's Life
Speaks the Nightbird
Gone South
Mine
Mystery Walk
Wolf's Hour
They Thirst
Usher's Passing
Baal
Bethany's Sin
Stinger
BLUE WORLD
If you enjoy Swan Song, I recommend The Stand: Expanded Edition: For the First Time Complete and Uncut (Signet)
