Taking Road Rage into Your Own Hands

Taking Road Rage into Your Own Hands

Here's the best way to take "road rage" into your own hands.

Simply let people merge into your lane in front of you (when it is reasonable). Don't automatically get angry at someone who wants to get in to your lane.

If we all drove a little more considerately, I think this would make the roads more pleasant and we would experience less road rage.

From what I've experienced in life so far, you "get" when you give. If you give a lot, you generally will receive more in return for your efforts. Okay, okay, I know I sound preachy or new-agey, but the truth is, I have had it with driving angry on the roads to and from work, or wherever I have to go.
I want to get rid of the road rage and maybe make the drive a little better.

Living in LA, which means I am in close proximity to the 405 and the 5 freeways (which are always busy, not to mention the 10 and the 110) I have experienced a lot of road rage.

Anyways, I'm going to start letting people into my lane.

yeah I guess you are right...

But I'll tell you, I don't always feel that way, especially after a long work day.

Older you get, the better you get it.

I enjoy aging,(living), I don't like wearing out. If I do not need to drive there I don't. But now I'm retired rural. I like it.

Highway to Hell

I totally agree with you Les, about the drivers and the highways. I too have many miles on my 'tires'. The highways in Texas and in Montana are the best in the USA... I related to CHRIS because of a particularly 'scary'incident on the 405 in LA, on my way to a job in LONG BEACH. The 405 is a 6-lane wide freeway, 6 lanes in EACH DIRECTION!!Seperating you, is a 4' high concrete barrier!!I somehow found myself in the far left lane, heading south to Long Beach. I was doing 80mph, and still had a car up my A**!! Like I wasn't going fast enough!! The barrier was less than a foot away from me on the left side, and there were still cars passing me on the right!! I WISHED I could get over!! But I was scared!! Trust me, I have PLENTY of experience behind a wheel too!! But that scared me!! Every driver down there that 'gets it' is a blessing!!

honest and professional assessments?

I have not driven in LA for years, but Chicago and Houston more recently are also interesting. I do not know how many miles I have driven all total, but having grown up in a rural are, and long ago, I have been driving tractor to semis since I was very young. (six year old, first vehicle) suffice it to say, land sea or air, I can do them all. If it is a Chopper, it would be like Bronson in the Mexican prison break. You ride with someone else if you can. But if nothing else . . . You might live, one of us. The Best Drivers in the World live in California, in or around LA. You do not qualify unless you have 15 years experience. If you live that long, I know you are careful and can drive anywhere. And you are cautious. Like old and bold pilots; either old or bold. Bold (ones) don't get old. The best highways in the world are in the State of Texas. Recently, with bad government and no immigration control for the last 30 years, the highways have deteriorated, and the system has dropped in quality. Too bad too. They used to build highways as good as in Germany's super roads. But still, overall the best highway system in the world. Best Drivers. California. Best Highways, Texas. yield, merge, stay alive. speed kills. a few million miles teaches you to look out for the next mile ahead.

Highway of Life

You must be the only person in LA who feels that way!! A rarity to be sure!! I would sooner take a bus than drive on the 405, or the 10 or 110 for that matter!! But life would be better, overall, if we all believed in merging and yielding.
