Teaching kids the value of Money

It is very important to teach children the value of money at an early age. By doing this, children will learn how to use money wisely and understand that money if spend wisely can bring forth great advantages in life.

Every child would always ask a parent for something like they like, something that they want. May it be a toy or food or money. It is alright to give in to their demands but not all the time. We should weight out everything first before giving in to their demands.

The best way to start in inculcating the value of money to children is to teach them how to save. Saving money early will teach the child that money does not grow in trees. It is something that someone must worked hard for to earn.

Here are some tips to start with money saving for children. Some of these tips were formerly published in American Baby Magazine, April 2007

- Save for a rainy day. Encourage the child to save money from his or here school allowance. A dollar save is a dollar earned for the future. Better yet, buy your child a piggy bank

- Open a savings account for the child. The money save from the piggy bank can then be deposited in the bank savings account. This will teach the child about stewardship

- Tell the child that money can also be use to bless others. Buy some gift small gift items (choco bars, tiny notebooks, candies) together with your child and let him do the giving to friends or perhaps those children who have less in life. This way, your child will feel that there is a delight in giving as well as in receiving.

- Finally you may also use the counterpart method. For every dollar he saves in his piggy bank, you counterpart it with your money as you deposit in the savings account. This way, your child will feel rewarded for his acts and will tend to save more.

By doing this things your child will surely understand that money is important and will learn to use the money wisely. Your child will also see that money can be used to make other people happy depending on how you use it. Essentially they should understand that money is not the root of all evil. It would always depend on how you use it.
