Teaching Students to Use Wikipedia Appropriately

Because Wikipedia's content is user-generated, information in Wikipedia entries can sometimes be incorrect or not very easy to verify. Therefore, Wikipedia isn't ideal for student use in research papers. However, students frequently turn to the site for information. With some class discussion and activities, teachers can show students effective ways to use Wikipedia as a way to begin researching topics and to generate paper ideas while discouraging them from using Wikipedia as their primary (or only) source of research.
