Team-spirit not team-work

How many times have your good intentions on the job been scuttled due to bickerings by other members of the unit? What's more? How many instances has your inability to work with the other team members been fingered as the reason why the work had been delayed? It gets more disturbing when you can sincerely tell yourself that you had tried all your best to get the others to get going on the job and could not get them to burge. Or still colud not get any help simply because the others were playing a game and knew perfectly well that as long as they did not do their part, you will be worse for it. The ultimate is to get you kicked out of the job just so that they can stake a claim for your job.

Inasmuch as divine providence would catch up with the folks behind your misfortunes, you can do a whole lot with a change of focus. This becomes the only way to guard against future occurences. Instead of going over the head of your team members to do their part, you can subtly instill the virtues of team spirit in them. What are these virtues?

If you can turn their hearts to see how easy and enjoyable work would be if they viewed their current status and position as a means to an end and not an end by itself. In doing this they would come to see that the task or tasks on the job are opportunities to express themselves. Anybody would jump at an opportunity to bring to the table his own ideas. This is the atmosphere you can create and have on the job.

You can also make your team members know the place of integrity and rest in labour. Yes, of course, if they are made to realise that integrity is earned by their actual performance on the job and not on the number of years put in or how close they are to the boss, a change of attitude would bloom in your group. Along with this, a pervading rest that allows for focus in all endeavours is also achieved.

The truth is, every group member would appreciate if their own work was given a boost by the performance of the next person on the job. The spirit of all for one, and one for all is one that strives to ease the path for the performance of the next person's work. In this way, we would not have to struggle on the job and hence achieve more with little input, energy and resources.

Whereas team work can be easily sabotaged, team spirit is unyielding to sabotage. Attempts at sabotage can easily be spotted, isolated and quashed een before it comes to light.

Choose to focus on team spirit, and do away with bickerings and pettiness on the job
