Tell Me Why: Why Does Toast Always Land Butter Side Down?

Is it myth? Is it not? Does toast always land butter side down?

Studies show (and yes, there are actual studies on this) that toast does have the tendency to land butter side down 80% of the time!

Why is this? Because...

*'...the gravitational torque induced as the toast topples over the edge of the plate/table is insufficient to bring the toast butter-side up again by the time it hits the floor...'

What does that mean? It means it's just gravity and the toast doesn't have enough time to make a full turn before doing the belly flop on your linoleum.

The solution? Easy! Taller tables and counters! Scientists found that the average kitchen table/counter is just too low to expect buttered toast to survive its fall. However, toast dropped from a height of 3 meters (10 feet) had a a better survival rate and landed butter side up 94% of the time!
