Tenth Anniversary of the Death of Phil Hartman | Tribute
posted May 28, 2008 - 11:26amTen years ago today, Phil Hartman was murdered by his wife. The world has been a lot less funny since then.
Phil Hartman first became noticed when he co wrote the sript for the classic Pee-Wee's Big Adventure with Paul Reubens. Hartman also made appearances on the Pee-Wee stage show as Captain Carl.
But it wasn't until Hartman first appeared on Saturday Night Live in 1986 that he gained some level of fame. He become instrumental to the show doing the bulk of impressions that were needed to stay up with current events. Hartman was well known for his impressions of Bill Clinton, Frank Sinatra, Michael Caine, Donald Trump, Phil Donahue, Ronald Reagan and many many more. Here are a few of my favorite clips from his SNL days:
Phil Hartman was a cast member on Saturday Night Live for 8 seasons and brought the show back to a level of quality not scene since it's early days. During this run Hartman also made quest voice appearances on The Simpsons as shyster lawyer Lionel Hutz and washed up actor Troy McClure. Here are a few clips from The Simpsons:
In his final years Phil Hartman appeared as one of the stars of the sitcom NewsRadio. He even received a posthumous Emmy nomination for portrayal of the character Bill McNeal.
Phil Hartman was a comedic icon for me, a kid growing up in the late 80s and early 90s. I will take this time to remember how much he has made me laugh over the years. Thank you Phil Hartman.
