TFT Monitors Buying Tips

Monitor Your Buying Whilst Shopping for TFT Display

Whether it is upgrading your computer or buying a new one, procuring a new TFT monitor display is a long term investment. So this heeds some deliberation.

Decision to a buy TFT (Thin Film Transistor) monitor will mainly hinge on the type of application it is going to be used for- Entertainment or Home:

  • Entertainment
Playing computer games and watching movies are going to be the primary activities here. Thus screen size of the TFT will be a major factor in choosing a display monitor. Go for TFT monitors with wider aspect ratio of 16:10 as all movies are available in wide screen formats.

If you choose to use your monitor with standalone DVD player as well ensure it has component and S-video inputs along with basic DVI and VGA inputs.

Next, watch out for brightness and contrast ratio. These two aspects determine video quality.

You do not want people sitting in the corners squinting while watching a movie. So pay attention to the horizontal viewing angle. It should be at least 160 degrees.

If you are an avid gamer, response time is of paramount importance. Only buy monitors with a response time less than 8ms - it is milli secs not secs :-)

  • Home and Office - SOHO (Small Office & Home Office)
Email, Internet Web browsing and Productivity applications will be the main activity areas. In this case viewing angle, contrast ratio and response time need not be given much significance. Buy a basic TFT monitor to get rid of that bulky CRT monitor and make your desk space look leaner and stylish.

Keeping these tips in mind would not only make TFT monitor buying decision easier, it would also fetch you the right product.

Thanks For The Input

This article informed me more about buying monitors. There are so many choices and being uninformed makes it difficult to choose which one to buy. So your article was a bit more helpful.
