A British man and his Thai wife were arrested along with scores of partygoers in Bangkok on Wednesday.

The couple is notorious for their weekly 'swingers' sex parties in Bangkok and Pattaya and charged people for attending parties which featured a buffet, drinks, pornography, condoms, Viagra and all of the sleazy company one could ask for!

The Brit-Thai couple had their own websites and were regular advertisers on Craigslist where they posted contact information, pricing, details and a schedule of parties which alternated between Bangkok on Wednesdays and Pattaya on Saturdays.

Thai television news reported on the arrest and cameras showed a number of both western and Asian men and women who were attending Wednesday's party in Bangkok. They also showed piles of packaged condoms, a case containing porn DVDs and many of the participants as they processed them for arrest.

Although Thailand has quite a reputation for it's sex trade and is a popular destination for sex-tourism, prostitution and pornography are technically illegal and, when enforced, Thailand has some strict decency laws. The sex trade does, however, continue to flourish and bring a large amount of tourist dollars into the economy, so red light districts and entertainment establishments still continue to exist.

Thailand get's a pretty bad rap when it comes to one of the major sex trade destinations of the world, but it is nowhere near the level it was back in it's heyday during the Vietnam war when hordes of GIs descended upon Bangkok on R&R! Now days it is pretty tame and not much different that Germany or Netherlands who have a thriving, regulated sex industry.

Thailand has a lot more to offer than cheap booze and cheap sex! With promising changes in the government and hopefully some progress after the world's economic crisis has passed, Thailand will continue to grow economically and have to rely less and less on the sex industry. As with every country in the world, it will ALWAYS exist, but in time we are bound to see less sleazy expats and tourists coming here for one reason only and more respectable and responsible travelers and business people calling Thailand home, home-away-from-home, or at least their favorite vacation destination.
