Whoa! What a show the opening ceremony was. Beijing certainly outdid themselves. The runner who lit the torch looked as though he were flying at one point, as he brought it to it's final destination.
I don't know how they accomplished all those special effects, but kudos to them! I can honestly say that it was the most spectacular Olympic opening I've ever had the privilege of seeing (even if it was just on T.V. for me).

Last night, the focus was on gymnastics and swimming, while I was watching. Excitingly, the U.S. set a world record in the mens Olympic 400-meter freestyle relay preliminaries.

The gymnasts were great, but I'm biased. I love watching gymnastics, so even when the athletes may have messed up, I was glued to the screen. The female U.S. gymnasts weren't on their best game, but they could definitely have done worse. And, China took the lead.

Tonight, I'm personally looking forward to the fencing, at 10 p.m. ET (I think/hope I have that time right).
So far, the games have been amazing. And, I'm still in awe of the opening ceremony. It was truly incredible.

I agree, the host country sure did outdo themselves. I foget his name, but the whole ceremony was put together by a Chinese movie director, so yeah, lots of wires and flying around!
It was a pretty impressive show. Just after we finished watching it I wrote a byte on my impressions of it. Here's My Byte if you're interested.
I was impressed with the story of the little Chinese boy who accompanied Yao Ming leading Team China around the stadium. (might just be a publicity/propaganda stunt, but it's a great story...one of those you hope is true.)
