I've titled my article The Adventures of BMX Racing because this is what our family is in to now a days. My husband and two oldest children enjoy racing. I and my youngest (14 months) are just spectators.
I actually (unfortunetaly) had the opportunity on Mother's Day to compete in a Mommy's race. This was very humiliating for me because I wore a very bad choice of jeans and had to ride my husband's 20" BMX bike. Not only was I last I was trying to pull my pants up the whole way around the track. I'm sure everyone loved watching my plumber butt go up and down the track. Very embarrassing...I do however emmensly enjoy going to these races. Watching all the riders in their racing gittups and the parents encouraging them around the track. Some parents get a little crazy about it. Yelling at their kids about how they should have peddled faster around that burm, or get off the gate quicker. I think to myself.."its just a sport, have fun". But at the same time I can level with them, you buy all this expensive equipment, helmet, gloves, racing clothes, clip in pedals, shoes, not including the bike and all the pricey parts that go into them. And that wonderful membership through the good ol' ABA. You would expect a little in return. Right?
I always think that if my kids and husband get tired of the whole racing business we could sell their FOUR bikes and buy a car! We probably could! My husband has spared no expense when he put these bikes together. It kinda works out to my advantage because when I feel like doing a little shopping he won't say anything. I just bring up the fact that he has spent hundreds of dollars on those silly bikes. So a few extra dollars on myself is no big deal! Selfish maybe, but a moms got to do what a moms got to do. Till next time...
