The Bell Witch Haunting is the type of scary story I really like: it's based on supposedly true events, it involves old stories from American folklore, and it features strange events involving mysterious circumstances rather than obvious monsters.

With Halloween just days away, the Bell Witch Haunting is getting some more exposure. It's based on a Southern folklore story dating from the early 1800's, involving the Bell family of Tennessee. The Bell Witch story is said to be the inspiration for movies such as An American Haunting and The Blair Witch Project.
