The Best Athletes Of Beijing Olympics 2008
The Best Athletes Of Beijing Olympics 2008
The Beijing Olympics 2008 saw many great athletes, men and women and had many records broken. But, the most outstanding of them were no doubt Micheal Phelps from USA and Usain Bolt from Jamaica.
Micheal Phelps Vs Usain Bolt
Both came to limelight with their record breaking feats in their respective fields. Micheal Phelps did the astonishable feat of breaking Mark Spitz's record of highest ever individual medals in the Olympics. He won all the 8 events in swimming to get 8 Gold Medals and become the highest individual Gold medal winner in the history of Olympic games. So, is he the Best Athlete?
Then came the lightening Bolt out of nowhere. Usain Bolt from Jamaica bolted out of the blue to put the tracks on fire in all the three events at the track and field of Beijing Olympics to get three Gold medals. He is now the Fastest human being on this planet.
Both of them were absolutely perfect in the Beijing Olympics. Both of them broke the world records at each event even surpassing their own records. So who is the better of the two? Can you tell?

8 gold medals vs. 3 gold
8 gold medals vs. 3 gold medals...
I think I'll go with Phelps.
Bolt is good, but until he can win five more events on the track, I don't think the two are comparable.

Three medals
from a single individual from the country of Jamaica is quite some achievement specially as he also beat all the records in all the events that he took part in. It does not happen often.
how can you belittle somebody else's acheivement thus? No doubt 8 medals is also a feat that is unbeatable and unmatchable so far. But then so is Usain Bolt. So I think Both are equal.
Who's "belittling" Usain
Who's "belittling" Usain Bolt? The question was, who is the best athlete? If the two candidates are 1) a guy who won eight gold medals in eight events with seven world records and one Olympic record and 2) a guy who won three gold medals in three events with three world records, then I'd have to say that the eight gold winner is "better" than the three gold winner.
There's no doubt that Usain Bolt had an impressive Olympics, but it wasn't the best performance at these games. There's nothing "belittling" about that.
Learn how to read and comprehend.

I don't think you get the gist
The whole idea behind this article was probably to bring out the greatness of "both" the athletes and not "really" (literally) looking for the "best" of the two.
You really can't compare the two. Here's what I understand:
Micheal Phelps has proved himself to be the "best" athlete in the field of "swimming" and the fact that he has been able to win 8 medals in this particular sport is now an unbeaten record. He has done his country proud with his achievement, which is no doubt an extraordinary one.
Usain Bolt, has proved himself to be the "best" athlete in the "track and field" event (at least three of them) and again the fact that he has won three Gold medals in this particular sport is now an unbeaten record also. he has equally, done his country proud as Micheal Phelps. His achievement is also as great as that of Micheal Phelps, if you were to ask the "Jamaicans"! Just as the achievement of Micheal Phelps is to the USA.
If you asked Micheal Phelps to compete against Usain Bolt, he wouldn't win, and vice versa. Therefore, the question, "Who is the best athlete" itself is wrong, in my perspective.
Instead, the title of the post is more accurate, which says, "The best athlete"s" of Beijing Olympics."
I would say, as a neutral party and from the World's point of view, that we are equally proud of both their achievements. And that they are Both great athletes in their respective sports.
And with that I rest my case here.
Micheal Vs Usain
Thanks Publius and rawnak for your comments.
I think both of them are great athletes and have achieved a lot for the sports in their own respective fields.
