The Boneyard #22
The Boneyard #22
The latest edition of "The Boneyard" is up at Laelaps. The Boneyard is a blog carnival for posts about paleontology!
There are a few additions I'd like to add:
* Have researchers found preserved proteins inside Tyrannosaurus bone or just microstructures preserved by bacterial sludge? See Slime versus dinosaur for comments from both sides. Carl Zimmer's post is probably the best coverage I've seen on this story from the blogosphere just because of that.
* Was Hypacrosaurus running quickly to stay in place? While this story has gotten a lot of attention, it's important to remember that the fast growth isn't unique to hadrosaurids, it's apparently found in most dinosaurs. As Tom Holtz pointed out on the Dinosaur Mailing List, it's the tyrannosaurs who are odd with their slower growth rates!
* Probably the funniest thing I'd seen in awhile: http://www.ethicalpalaeontologist.com/2008/07/taxonomy-fail.html
Anyway, that's enough for now, I can't wait for the next edition of The Boneyard on September 2.
