Isaiah Washington's Next Role?
Critics of actor Isaiah
Washington won't have Dr. Burke to kick around anymore. The "Grey's Anatomy" surgeon who created a stir when he called cast mate T.R. Knight an anti-gay slur--on two different occasions--has lost his job on the show, press reports say.
ABC Television Studios, the producer of the hit TV series, announced Thursday that Washington's contract was not renewed for next season.
Washington, perhaps trying out for the Howard Beale role in a sequel to the 1970s movie "Network," was quoted as saying, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore."
After catching a lot of flack for his anti-gay slur, Washington apologized, went into therapy, met with gay rights officials, and even filmed a public service message that encouraged people not to use hurtful language.
Apparently it wasn't enough. Washington is said to be doing some charity work and working on an indie movie. And maybe he's looking for a TV comeback as today's "mad prophet of the airwaves" ... I wonder if Sybil the Soothsayer and Miss Mata Hari and her Skeletons in the Closet are available?
