The Eleventh Reason

Wondering what the first ten are? I had covered the reasons people vote for articles in my post The voting Mystery. Read the post here

http://www.xomba.com/the_voting_mystery

Today morning i went to 'my xomblurbs' and saw a slew of 1's. However, the + sign was grey. I was wondering how all the blurbs had got a 1. It had never happened to me earlier that all my blurbs had been appreciated by someone other than me. Then reason dawned upon me. It is the Great User Points Race. Instead of writing bytes and blurbs ( Which would take at least two minutes each after researching) to take a lead or catch up with someone in the race, just open someone's xomblurb page and splash it with mouse clicks over the + marks. There, you have 10 points in less than 20 seconds. Do it for 10 people, you have a 100 points in your kitty in about 4 minutes. If you don't like giving +1's to strangers open your buddy posts and shower them with your goodness ( I hope this is not true. I don't want my buddies to vote for me without reading the post).

If one is still not happy and wants more he/she can always write comments. Comments garner two points. Some of our friends have realized that also. So we have a bevy of one / two word comments. "Nice post, interesting, great job, huh!, LOL etc. The best comment is "+1". Gets you three points.

Fame and fortune are addictive. Sometimes I wonder how little it would take for people to throw out decency, honesty and fairness. Remember this, you are definitely encouraging the writer by giving a vote and a comment, but only if it is deserving and meaningful. Do it without reason and for your own cause and very soon the original purpose will be lost. People will stop feeling excited on seeing a vote and not bother to read comments. We don't want that, do we?

Sad Truth

I just +1 this article just for that comment Idle. Do you think the alien has a sister?

A date with the purple alien

I'd suggest a few steps: 1] Hack into Xomba's computer to find out the name of the alien (it's supposed to be announced soon) 2] While you're in the Xomba system, find out what sex (if any) the alien is (if this kind of thing is important to you) 3] Ask nicely for a date, making sure that all your sentences are, like that set of Taprial's posts, made up of quotes & quips from various xombies. This mastery of Xomba content will dazzle the alien and make your offer irresistible!

So...

...How DOES one get a date with the purple alien, then? See, there's this big dance coming up soon...

Voting

I only vote for stuff that I actually like, for a couple of reasons: some things get only 1 vote or no votes. so voting indiscriminately makes it harder for the better stuff to stand out. Secondly, the User Points total is for bragging rights only (at this point, anyway), so it's not as if anyone is going to get money or fame or a date with the purple alien for finishing near the top. Racking up much points doesn't count for much, even though it can be fun to see one's name up there. Hey, what the hell is that +1 sign anyway?

It's good to point this out taprial

and I almost wrote a xombyte earlier today about "Why You Want Bigpink to Comment on Your Post" because if you've ever been fortunate to have him comment on your postings, you'll know that he goes to extra efforts to compose a thoughtful comment that is longer than most xombytes. I'm not saying bigger is better, but it's nice to have well constructed feedback on your/my work. If it's crap, please tell me as I would tell you! (That's a lie, I would never call someone's work crap!) Good job bringing this to the forefront but now I'm in a dilemma....do I vote for it??? :) Peace, Mia NW Please visit my recent posts at: http://www.xomba.com/user/mia_northwest Get paid to be a xombie!
