The Expected Generation
posted July 26, 2008 - 9:15amA knock at the door diverted my attention
And caused me to stop and look around.
The probable cause of some inner contention
For most of the day I was feeling down.
I walked outside to watch the flowers grow
And somehow forgot to lock the door.
It wasn’t till I had the facts that began to show
That would teach me all I knew and more.
There was an important thing that gave me start
When I saw the light outside had begun to dim;
The roses’ smell was not sweet but tart
And the petals were looking rather thin.
You’re searching for something that makes sense,
A thing you can take home to the folks.
But you’ll find no help here among the dense
Whose daily labor is making political jokes.
We pay them well, the officials we elect,
To make sure the country is safe and free.
But more and more we find the freedom effect
Is discovered in their downloaded pornography.
A senator, a congressman, in this week or next
Will find a way to pacify his base sexual need
By violating and perverting his aides with text
And subtle invitations to plant his damnable seed.
Washington has become revolting with despair.
The laws that are made to protect the young
Can be seen as limits for only those who care
And those whose songs are yet unsung.
There are wars the United States is fighting now
In some strange, distant and foreign land.
But a battle rages here at home, as long as we allow
Our elected predators an unrestricted hand.
