The Fountain of Youth Found!...In a Grocery Store?

With the declining economy of the day, the need to save money is becoming an ever increasing priority. Necessities are getting so expensive, that treating ourselves is quickly turning into a thing of the past. For many, the financial situation is all about survival mode. Expensive beauty treatments and products are put under the bottom of the budget and the “regime” of beauty is interrupted due to lack of funding.

DON’T GIVE UP HOPE - ALL IS NOT LOST!

You can save money and still treat yourself to the preventative aging maintenance you have accustomed yourself to - naturally, cost efficiently and just as effectively as if you were spending a fortune. I have been able to find each one of these ingredients in the grocery store, even wholesale grocery outlets carry all of these products - in fact, you probably already have most of these products in your house already.

HAIR

If your hair tends to be oily or has “product build up” and is heavy, flat, weighted down, give it a good wash with sunlight dish soap. This will effectively strip off the products built up in your hair making feel light and “squeaky clean”. Only do this on rare occasion to avoid drying the hair - once a month or so. Deep condition your hair with a 15 minute mayonnaise treatment. Try to use real mayo here not the “dressing” type, they are made differently or use a mashed, ripe banana for about the same amount of time and rinse well. Makes the hair very shiny.

Eating watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew melon is great for hair and nails (among the many health benefits of eating melon) it has silicon and antioxidants as well as many other healthy components. Few things are more refreshing than fresh, juicy melon during the warm summer months.

FACE

The two of these can be combined or used separately both with good results.
Honey has natural antibacterial properties and makes a yummy albeit, sticky facial mask, but it makes the facial skin so soft. Yogurt is another yummy type facial that works wonders…lactic acid, pro biotic, antibacterial and antifungal properties make it a beneficial “snack” for your skin, inside and out.
Do be careful if using any flavoured yogurts - although strawberries have astringent qualities, and blueberries have great antioxidant properties, most berries can stain the skin.

Always use a sunscreen on your face no matter what time of year or however cloudy it is outside. The sun causes severe damage to the skin, wrinkles and sometimes skin cancer, so, protect yourself with a SPF of at least 25 and don’t forget your eyes, ears and lips.

EYES

To get rid of tired, red, puffy eyes, use fresh cold cucumber slices. It really works, and so well it is almost addictive. Five to ten minutes with on covering your eyelids will make those eyeballs feel refreshed and wide awake.
Caffeinated tea bags work well to soothe puffy eyes as well - do not use Earl Gray because the oil in it could make you itchy. Tea also helps get rid of the dark circles as well.
Preparation H for crows feet and wrinkling around the eye…yes the haemorrhoid cream…apparently the US version no longer contains BIODYNE however the Canadian version does, and those I know who use it, swear by it.

LIPS
If your lips are rough and dry, you can exfoliate them with sugar. The best way to keep your lips hydrated is to keep your body hydrated by drinking lots of water, otherwise something with an SPF is recommended. Sunburn on the lips is a painful, blister filled event - totally worth avoiding.

TEETH

Brushing with baking soda for a week or two will help to whiten and brighten your smile or mashed strawberries are said to whiten teeth as well - that way, it matches your sparkling personality.

There are many great ways to look “salon” good without spending a fortune, or a whole lot of time. Take good care of your body and it will serve you well. Try not to forget the inside as well as the outside, it will be well reflected for all to see.

Wonderful Tips

Wonderful tips and well written article! Great job ~ 1+

Fountain of Youth-Perhaps Maintenance

HAIR: As a former hairstylist-I would put a teaspoon of Olive Oil into palm of ones hand and massage this into your hair, and leave on for 20 mins. with a cap on or hair wrapped in Saran Wrap. ADD SHAMPOO to hair FIRST otherwise it will take forever to remove then rinse with warm water. Oily Hair-after shampoo is rinsed out I would then rinse your hair with milk-yes milk, about 1 cup, then follow it with a cold water rinse-as cold as you can stand. Warm water will only produce more oil. FACE: I found Witch Hazel to the best astringent there is. Apply to face using a cotton ball, then moisturize as usual. For those who still set your hair with rollers-use stale beer as a setting lotion. Though I never used this in a salon, only at home and it does work and you will have the best set going for you.
