The Google Adwords Keyword Tool
The Google Adwords Keyword Tool
What people search for on the internet can be a strong indicator of the purchases they are willing to make. A very valuable tool for becoming familiar with popular (and even unpopular) searches is the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. This tool is free to use, and very simple to make sense of.
I have used it for my website Advertising Yourself and quickly realized that the search term "make money online with" should secure me a better niche market than "make money online." Sound ridiculous? Well, it begins to make sense if you see the process through.
What you do first is type in any keyword you want to assess, then follow the prompts provided. You will be taken to a page that will show the keyword you searched for, plus multiple other variations on this keyword that you might want to consider. Beside the word will be two measurements of popularity: One is representative of the "Search Volume" of this term -- how popular it is with internet users; the other is representative of advertiser competition for this term -- how popular it is with advertisers.
This Keyword Tool was designed for advertisers to use. However, it can also be used by people or companies who are interested in being sponsored by advertisers -- as with my own website, Advertising Yourself.
(If a keyword bears a low search volume and advertisers are still strongly competing for it, I would recommend advancing new content in this area. The reasoning is that by giving advertisers a new site to place their relevant ads, they will be able to reach potential customers who are likely in the mood to look at these relevant ads.)
When you understand the popularity (or unpopularity) of the search tags you are using, you can anticipate the business-activity you are likely to receive as a result.
