The Incredible Hulk
The Incredible Hulk
In 2003 Ang Lee's Hulk was released and people flocked to see it on opening day it earned $62 million on its opening day which as anyone knows is good.
The problem was that it wasn't what the fans wanted, they didn't want lots of drama and limited action scenes. Ang Lee tries to push the characters forward and to get more depth from them, he somewhat changes the origin of the Hulk adding his father into the whole mix.
Looking at in a certain way Ang Lee's version isn't bad, but it just wasn't what the fans wanted so after its release talk started happening and it started to drop.
Now here we are five years later and Marvel has gone with a reboot, The Incredible Hulk was released this past Friday and it has everything the fans want.
The movie is a mix between the old tv show and the comic books, we have the origin from the tv show and we have characters from the comics.
The cast is led by Edward Norton, who is a phenominal actor and his portrayal of Banner is defiently the best one yet, he is followed by Liv Tyler as the love interest Betty Ross and she comes on top over Jennifer Connely, William Hurt is the new Thunderbolt Ross but I do have to say the actor who played him the 2003 version was better, not to say William Hurt wasn't good, and lastly Tim Roth as the villain. Now this is the first time I've seen Tim Roth, but he was brilliant, the first time he sees the Hulk you can see it in his eyes, he wants that kind of mass power.
The plot follows Bruce looking for a cure and General Ross is after him, Bruce is hiding out in Brazil when he is discovered and returns to America and gets back with Betty and they both go searching for a cure, it turns out that a soldier named Emil Blonsky has turned into an abomination and the only person who can stop him is The Hulk.
One of the problems with Ang Lee's movie was too much drama, now drama isn't a bad thing, but too much of it is. This version has a mixture of some drama mixed in with some action and a few comedic scenes.
The only problem I have is that the CGI could of been better in some scenes, theres parts where Hulk comes off as real and others where he just looks like a cartoon in the middle of real people.
I give this film a 8/10

I Liked It Too
I liked this Hulk better than the old one as well. I think I would go with a 7.5-8/10
Love Ang Lee BUT........
I love Ang Lee. His films are well acted and beautiful to look at. Sense and Sensibility, Ride With the Devil, The Ice Storm and Brokeback Mountain are all wonderful films and deserve their places in my top films. Which is why I was so disappointed with his version of Hulk. It wasn't Lee's storyline that I didn't like. It was Hulkie himself. The last thing I wanted to see was a giant beachball with a face bouncing all over the movie screen.
As for Tim Roth. You have to see more of his films. He's always great. I suggest you give Reservoir Dogs, The Legend of 1900 and The Beautiful Country a watch and although his part isn't huge, you can't go wrong with Pulp Fiction.
