The Kimkins Diet
posted February 13, 2008 - 10:27amHave you heard about the Kimkins diet, but not enough pieces to put it all together? The Kimkins diet is unlike most diet plans out there today--information isn't readily available unless you sign up for full access to the website and pay the $60 fee. Is it worth the money? Yes and no. First off, this diet DOES work! It's actually pretty amazing how the weight falls off.
I needed to lose 15 pounds for a trip to Mexico--or buy all new swim clothes in the middle of January! I started the Kimkins diet, wasn't entirely faithful but very close, and ended up losing 12 pounds in 3 weeks! Here's the downside, within a week of letting loose in Mexico, I'd gained back all but two pounds. Kimkins is not a way of life, it is a DIET, it will work to get the weight off quick without too much hunger. The diet is similar to Atkins but where Atkins encourages eating full-fat items like sour cream and lots of butter, Kimkins does not. You will be on a low-carb, low-fat diet.
My typical day looked like this:
Breakfast: Eggs with a little salsa and cheese OR
Carb Control yogurt, string cheese
Lunch: Chicken salad OR chicken soup with only chicken,
celery,onions and chicken broth
Dinner: Fish and veggies
Under 20 grams of carbs a day and as little fat as possible, that's it.
Is the website worth it? I think so--the diet gets monotonous after a while, reading other people's recipes and advice helps a lot. If you need to lose a large amount of weight or lose weight quick, this is a great start. The question is whether it can be maintained. The answer for me was clearly, no.
