execution for conspiracy to sell atomic secrets to the Soviets, as the bloodletting in Korea sputtered toward stalemate. Meanwhile, Wisconsin Senator Joseph McCarthy continued his campaign to oust communists, real and imagined, from every sector of American culture, government and industry.
