The Naked Cowboy, a fixture in Times Square for years, will now be handing out official NYC tourist guides.

The Naked Cowboy (real name Robert John Burck) will continue his current gig, playing a guitar and singing on the street while wearing only his white briefs. But now he will be handing out free tourist brochures. Burck says that tourists who come up to him to chat are always asking him for directions and tourist tips anyway. So New York City officials seem to have decided to give him official role.

The news comes at New York City is finishing up a strong year in tourism, and gearing up for the big annual Times Square ball-drop celebration on New Year's Eve.
