The New Broadcast Television (NOT Pay-TV) FREE Digital Television (DTV)
Broadcast Television programming stinks, except PBS. And, I am a strong supporter of Broadcast Television technology. I dislike subscription TV, in any form.
Why? Television was, and remained for many years, a free medium. When the meshing of radio and advertising occurred in the early 1920's, radio blossomed, more stations came on the air, and variety of programming exploded. Radio, today, for the most part, remains a free medium, thanks to commercials.
Television, began like radio. Commercials paid for the content and Broadcast Television, like Broadcast Radio remained free.
Broadcast Television continues to remain free, but, its programming has declined, as the broadcasters have, for years, fought an uphill battle against subscription type television, mainly cable.
Broadcasters, for many years needed an edge to properly compete with cable, and this is where the story of Digital Broadcast Television (DTV) begins. It was with the broadcasters, NOT cable, that digital television (DTV) was invented. HDTV was created for DTV.
Digital Television will give broadcasters the competition-edge they've needed for years. The FCC, who regulates Broadcast Television, not cable, has played an important part in the implementation of DTV.
It is the FCC who has mandated the switch from analog to DTV, nationwide, on February 19, 2009.
And, because broadcasters, your local TV stations, will be able to broadcast multiple programs, at the same time, I believe strongly broadcast television will once, again, give the viewer quality programming. Yea, there will still be commercials, but, someone has to pay for the FREE programming you'll be getting.
I will always sit with the broadcasters. Free television is a better deal than pay-tv. Maybe not today because of the crappy programming, but, the crappy programming is because of analog broadcasting and loss of the public to cable.
I am a member of the part-of-the-public who believe there is a future for Broadcast Television. Give them sometime, make the switch to DTV, and I believe in the not too distant future, Broadcast Television will absolutely dazzle you!

Nice Article +1
We can only hope that broadcast television will make a decent comback. If I didn't have 50 million other things to do, I would be out looking for a free 8' satellite dish and receiver to set up in the yard, so I could free TV, with nearly the same selection as cable.

Thanks Starpage852! I cataloged your link. I'm on dial-up, right, now, but, as soon as I get back to DSL I'll get over there.
I hate pay-tv companies. They think their God's gift, but, they are actually hell itself...
