The New Face of Indian Cricket
posted December 21, 2007 - 12:33am After the dismal performance of the Indian cricket team at the Caribbean World Cup 2007, nobody would have thought that Indian Cricket will ever the light of day again. But to the very surprise of all the cricket enthusiasts of the coountry, India rose above and proved its mettle to
world.
Leaving aside all the incidents of the past and looking forward to a new beginning, the Indian Cricket team went to South Africa for the inaugral World Twenty20 Championship with a rejuvenated spirit. Nobody expected that the team would ever reach the SuperEight stage. The general view was that even if India reaches the Super Eight stage they would be eliminated then and there. But, it was not to be. Lead by a young, calm and cool M.S. Dhoni, the young team was full of spirit. By reaching the SuperEight stage, the team proved all the analysts wrong. By then everyone was abreast with the power of the new and young team. Before this, everyone's minds were filled with doubts about the Indian Cricket Team without the Big Three( Dravid, Tendulkar and Ganguly) but there doubts were cleared by young team.
India were defeated by New Zealand by ten runs, but leaving aside the loss India put it across England and South Africa to reach the semis. Here they defeated the nearly invincible and mighty Australians to qualify for the title clash with arch-rivals Pakistan. A very close game between the two nations put the viewers scratching their heads as to who would win this game. But after all the suspense Indians emerged victorious.
This victory has changed the minds of many people about the Indian team, but it put another question- Is Indian Cricket Team better without the Big Three?
