The Pacemaker Rhythm

Our heart is a very wonderful creation. It is the pumping organ of our body and is the reason for blood circulation. Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to all parts of our body.

When the heart stops, oxygen is not delivered most importantly to the brain and in a few minutes the brain dies.

The heart is powered by an electrical impulse that is generated in the upper portion left side of the heart. This site is call the Sino Atrial Node. This is the reason that when an elictrical impulse starts from the said area, usually we call the rhythm a sinus rhythm.

However there are situations when the sino atrial node can no longer generat the right impulse and a pacemaker implant is placed. This will takeover the function of the sino atrial node.

This are often seen in the ECG as a pacemaker rhythm. You can view the pacemaker rhythm below.
