The people I meet on the bus
The people I meet on the bus
When the price of fuel jumped up by a dollar or more in a week and a half I decided to start taking the bus to and from work. I live 64 miles one way from my job and I was nervous about riding the bus at first. I thought that these people are people who can’t even get a drivers license or cannot even afford a car. The scourge of society, right? Wrong. These people, most of them, are regular everyday people that for the most part, I have gotten to know pretty well and have enjoyed their company. This is about a few of the stranger ones though.
I was talking about inflation with someone on the bus, I stated that it starts with minimum wage going up, then escalates from there. My argument was that when minimum wage goes up in an area, so do the prices of the items at the place that employs minimum wage workers. So your meal that cost 5.54 now it 6.14. Its small mind you, but that makes the people that don’t get minimum wage think again about eating out, because Joe Blow, he didn’t get a raise, or worse yet, it was 2 percent of not much. I said all that and this guy started screaming, “Show me the evidence!” It got so bad the bus driver booted him off.
Another time I was watching a movie on my laptop with the headphones plugged in mind you, and when we got to the bus station the guy that was sitting next to me told me thanks for the movie. But for the most part, the people I meet on the bus are fascinating. One guy went to a university to get a 4 year degree to go on to 3 more years of college to become a lawyer. A girl that rides the bus grew up in the same small town as me only a mile down the road, and we are both transplanted well over 100 miles. Another lady wears the nicest cloths and never has them dirty on the ride home, perfectly flawless.
The thing that is cool though, is we are a product of our surroundings, what we go through is what makes us who we are. That being said, I can say that I am happy to ride the bus and have these people be part of my life, no matter how small. I learn from all of them, these people I meet on the bus.

Interesting. I spent some time riding the bus when our car died. It is usually a very interesting experience. Plus I rode Greyhound (the bus) from Wisconsin to Texas with an eleven month old son. Boy was that an interesting trip!
Ah yes, very interesting indeed and all because of the people!
