THE POWER OF THE SPOKEN WORD

GENESIS, CHAPTER 1

In chapter 1 of Genesis, we will learn about the power of the spoken word of God... Although the earth was without form, void and dark, God responded to the need of the earth by speaking light into it. In the mean time His Spirit standing by waiting for God to instruct Him in what to do and when God speaks He releases the light in the midst of the darkness. Throughout the 1st chapter of Genesis, God is speaking “Let” which means to allow or to permit something to happen. And things are being released all over the earth: Dry land was released, grass was released, herbs & fruit trees were released, sun, moon and stars were released, fish of the sea and birds of the air were released, then the creeping things and beast of the fields were released. WOW! All these things were done by the spoken word of God. So we can acknowledge that the spoken Word of God is ALL powerful.

If we look at the big picture of creation we would first have to acknowledge God, the Holy Spirit and His Word at work. They are working together as a team (Gen. 1:1-4) Through this teamwork their purpose is to:

v to impact the world

v to bring order to disorder

v taking nothing and making something

v making a miracle out of a mess

v straightening out the confusion

Now let’s look at the condition of the earth or the “issue” at hand (Gen. 1:2)

v Formless

v Void

v Consumed by darkness

What is the need?

(Gen.1:3-4, 11-13, 20-27)

v Light to shine on darkness

v Life

How does God respond to the need?

v He does not complain about the darkness

v He does not spend a lot of time talking about the darkness

v He acknowledges the issue and responds with the word “Let there be Light”

v The Holy Spirit releases the light

v God calls the Light good, while it is still tangled in with the darkness

v Then God divides the light from the darkness

v God distinguishes the Light from the Darkness

v He calls the Light “Day, and the darkness “Night”

v New day begins

v God begins to release new Life in the earth

What type of Character do we see in God?

Before God creates man, we can see His character:

· He cared about the darkness of the earth

· He had compassion on the darkness of the earth

· He responded by providing light

· He kept responding by adding life daily

Therefore if God responds to the earth in this fashion, how much more would he respond to the need of his prize creation MAN & WOMAN?

How does this scripture relate to us?

NOTE: When we accept Jesus into our lives, we are accepting God’s provision of light and life for our survival.

-At the inception of light you begin to see you for who you are

-That is a sign that God is knocking at your door

-God is choosing to save you from yourself and this evil world

-God is also saying I can use you, will you come

-Now you have to agree with God that you have issues of darkness in your heart

-Then you have to make a choice to follow the light by choosing Jesus--the ONLY way out

-Everyone else has to make the same choice to follow the light or remain in darkness

-Nothing is wrong with the light- something is deathly wrong with you and me

-The Light has purpose; we are now seeing our need for a Savior

-We can now see that there is a difference between light and darkness

-We are consciously aware of light and darkness when we walk in the Spirit

-When we choose to follow the light we are led into a new Day

-Heavenly things are open to us; the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand

-The Holy Spirit is now ready to release new Life on a daily basis

-The Holy Spirit is now ready to release fruit in us

-The Holy Spirit is now ready to release authority to us

-We have entered into the plan of Salvation and the ministry of reconciliation (II Cor 5:18)

-The Holy Spirit is now ready to teach us how to release life in the earth for others

-We learn to have faith in God for someone else’s life as we shed off selfishness

God patterned us after Himself; therefore, if any man be in Christ; he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (II Cor. 5:17). Jesus reconciled us back to God by his death, burial, and resurrection and gave us back the life that God originally planned for us back in Genesis 1:26 – we are back to being in His image and after His likeness. Therefore our words carry power because of Jesus sending the Holy Spirit to live in us. Just like the Holy Spirit hovered over the darkness in the earth until a word was spoken by God. So will it be in the lives of our friends, family, co-workers, murderers, thieves, robbers, until we speak a word of Light that leads to a new Life. He does not force His way into our lives, He wants to be invited in through Jesus. (Rev. 3:20) You and I are agents for Christ, therefore we can invite people to give up their old life and receive a new one.

Now you can see that before Jesus called us the light of the world, (Matt 5:14), He was the Light (John 1:1-14) and before he was the Light he was the Word in the beginning. Therefore Jesus carries the light and brings new life from God to us. When we accept Jesus, we accept His light and His life and we are back to a right relationship with God and now under the original plan of God for our lives. We are not just in Christ to escape Hell; we are in Christ to impact the world. Anything short of that is a vain life with no purpose and you will find that most people are spending their lives running from the light that can cause them to impact the world.

Therefore we have to respond to the darkness of others like God responded to the darkness of the earth our darkness—WITH THE SPOKEN AND LIVING WORD OF GOD. You all have greatness inside of you and as we continue to seek God in His word and apply the word to your lives; my prayer is that you will be free to love God back with your life and your ministry to a dying world.
