Nicholas was a researcher at the Quantum Anomaly Research Laboratory (otherwise known as QARL) . He had found a way to cause the creation of sub-atomic particles without all the extremely expensive and complicated equipment needed until now.

To those of you that don’t know what I am talking about, sub-atomic particles are discoveries of a science called Quantum Physics. They are the basic building blocks of atoms which are the basic building blocks of all matter, such as wood, steel, and our very bodies.

Nicholas found a way to measure the frequencies of the sub-atomic particles and build a machine that would generate these frequencies. He found that when he used this machine to generate these frequencies that the particles would appear as if out of nothingness. Once that was accomplished he programmed a computer to control the machine (which he called the Quantum Modulator, or QM), in order to generate specific particles and then to organize these particles into atoms and then into actual matter.

With this he would be able to build anything he wanted by just stepping from the basic particles to more and more advanced structures. One problem was that when the power to the Quantum Modulator was shut off the matter that was created suddenly ceased to exist. He needed to maintain power to the device to keep the particles existing in his dimension. Once the power was shut off his theory was that the particles would go into some other dimension.

Nicholas pondered this drawback and came up with the idea that this device could be used for recreational and research purposes. He decided to embark on a project where he could build a “virtual world” where people could go into a room and have it seem like any place or time they wanted to be. Once the need for the virtual world was finished the power could just be shut off and it would be gone.

One such scenario was when Nicholas himself used the device to program the room (he called it the Quantum Reality Room or QRR), to be a rendering of one of his favorite television shows where he was the Captain of a Star Ship. He was amazed at how realistic the virtual world was. Everything seemed so real. He could touch things and they were solid. The colors were vivid and sounds were real.

As Nicholas used the room more and more he began to notice a strange thing. He began to have dreams that were more real feeling than he had ever had before. He had heard of lucid dreams where the dreamer has control of the dream, but this seemed like something else. He did not seem to have control actually, but it seemed to him that he was actually in some other place that was as real as his own “reality” when he was awake.

Nicholas encountered other people in this alternate reality. They seemed amused that he did not seem to understand where he was. Many times he would encounter one of these people that would know his name without having to ask. Some seemed to know him from somewhere but he could not place either them or the place where they might have met. Once a woman tried to explain to him when and where they met but he could not remember.

As Nicholas had more experiences with these dreams he would have vivid memories of these dreams upon awakening. It was easy for him to remember details of the scenery and the events that happened. At first he thought this was just the result of some unexplained situation in his life. He had been very engrossed in his project with the Quantum Modulator, so he thought it was a natural release of some of the energy he built up during the day and thought nothing more about it.
However, the more he experimented with the Quantum Modulator, the more he found himself having these vivid dreams. He began to realize that there must be some connection between the two. He began to research the possibilities of what could be taking place. He was also beginning to have strange memories of a beautiful red headed woman.

He found that in Quantum Physics there was a belief among some scientists that sub-atomic particles actually alternate in and out of existence in cycles. We can observe them to be both particles and waves which means that all sub-atomic particles exist both as energy and as matter. Some scientists believe that there are many different “realities” existing in many different dimensions and that possibly the same sub-atomic particles that make up the atoms in your coffee cup, for instance, could also exist in many different dimensions as well at the same time.

So Nicholas began to see a possibility. Since this would mean that there could be various different dimensions existing in the same place at the same time and that these dimensions would share the same sub-atomic particles then it could be that he had caused some sort of link to other realities with the atoms of his own body by using the Quantum Reality Room.

He decided to test his theory. He created a scenario to program the QRR to project. He created a replica of his own laboratory but with one difference. He had it include an interface where he could directly link to any other reality that might be sharing the same sub-atomic particles. He did this by including a computer that would tag each sub-atomic particle that was created by the Quantum Modulator so that it could be “followed” when it disappeared from his current reality.

With this he was able to determine how to program the scenario to shift to that reality as a sub-program within the current program. Once he had figured out how to leave bread crumbs, so to speak, so that he could find his way back in case he got too far away from his real world, he began to explore.

Nicholas found that the location and just about every other aspect of the scenario was different as he followed the particles. Many of the particles would go into the same dimension as others, but many would go into totally deferent dimensions as well. He found that he could exist within each one as all the particles in his body seemed to flow into the same dimensions so they would maintain their relationship to each other and his body would be intact.

In his earlier research he found that there was much interest in the theory that human consciousness seemed to actually influence the behavior of the sub-atomic particles so he attributed the fact that his body remained intact to this idea. He believed that his body was intact so it stayed that way.

Nicholas felt elated. He was learning so much that he would require the rest of his life to understand the implications and be able to present his findings to the world. For now he would just be content with the exploration of this new offshoot of Quantum Physics.

So Nicholas began to realize that his dreams were like left over impressions from his visits to the QRR. He had no real proof, but he realized that just visiting the QRR would have an effect on the atoms and sub-atomic particles in his own body and therefore his brain. He wondered if it could be possible that he was actually creating links to other dimensions within his own being that lasted even after the power to the QM and the QRR was turned off.

Nicholas decided to try another approach. The next time he found himself in one of these dreams he talked to people he met. He asked questions to try to determine if they knew anything about what might be happening to him. Most had no idea of what he was talking about. He found that as he had different dreams at different times he would encounter people with differing levels of awareness of what he was asking about.

As he ran different scenarios in the QRR he found there seemed to be a pattern to how these affected his dreams. Some scenarios would produce dreams with people that knew more about his inquiries and some produced dreams where he was more or less considered a mad man.

He began to be able to tailor the scenarios in the QRR to produce dreams where he was able to find people that seemed to know what he was talking about. This enabled him to obtain more information that helped him to fine tune the QRR to enable him to more directly target dimensions where he could further his research.

As this went on he began to notice that he would encounter some of the same people in different dreams where he visited different dimensions. These people knew him and what he was doing. They seemed to become guides of sorts that were trying to help him understand.

One such guide was Samantha. She was a good looking woman with red hair and a beautiful figure. Nicholas wondered how much about her was from his own wishful thinking and how much was really her own reality. Nicholas decided to ask her about this. He also recognized her as that woman that had been in his early dreams.

“I know that I have been able to influence the sub-atomic world with my own consciousness.” Nicholas told her. “I have experimented with this enough to know that I can influence the reality where I find myself, so I was wondering…..”

Nicholas trailed off when he realized he was about to ask Samantha if he had a part in creating how she appeared.
“Wondered what?” Samantha asked with an inquisitive look. She really knew exactly what he was going to ask, but wanted him to express it himself. To Samantha it was an experiment too. She already had been through much of what Nicholas had been doing to get this far and wanted to get independent
information from someone going along the same path to see if his experiences and thoughts were similar.

“I was wondering – and don’t take this wrong, it’s just a natural thought after all this. How much of how you appear to me is really you and how much is the product of my own thoughts?”

Samantha laughed. “Well, I don’t know, How do I appear to you? As far as I know I could look like some strange monstrous being to you. Or I could look to you exactly as I am but it could be frightening to you. So what exactly do you see?”

Well, I see a woman that is about 5’5” tall with a slim figure and very red hair.” Nicholas described to Samantha what he was seeing. What he did not tell her was how attractive this was to him.

“OK.” Samantha said. “I could play with your head here, but since we are both trying to organize our thoughts about what is going on and it would be so easy to get wrong impressions that could lead us astray I will be totally honest with you if you promise the same.”

“Agreed!” Nicholas said.

“OK, then I will tell you that you are correct in your description. I will assume that you are about 5’10” tall, slim with a full beard and short hair. Is this correct?” Samantha asked.

“Yes. So now we can begin to compare notes to see if we can further our knowledge of what we are experiencing. One thing we should probably understand before we get too carried away is that on my part this is all happening in my dream state and as soon as my body is rested I will awaken. I do not know how this will appear to you or if we will be able to find each other easily again so maybe this is where we should begin our collaboration.” Nicholas might have been taken by Samantha’s beauty but he was also pragmatic.

“Agreed.” said Samantha. “How do you propose that we establish a way to find each other on a regular basis? I should tell you that this is my regular reality, so to speak and that I am fully awake, as far as I know anyway. You seem to me to be as real as anyone else I encounter in my daily activities. Maybe if I tell you my address and phone number you will be able to find me if nothing else works.”

“Yes, that would be a good fallback, but I have a feeling there is another way to do this.” Samantha was listening. “Since it seems that there is some sort of quantum entanglement that has caused us to come together I believe that we have a connection to each other now and that all I would have to do is to think of you when I am in a Quantum Dream, as I have come to call them. Even more, I could create a scenario in the QRR where I visit your reality. Then when I have dreams later that night I would be more likely to visit here and find you. Does this seem likely to you?”

‘Well, I think it makes sense.” She said. So you are thinking that you can use the QRR to sort of focus in on the places and times you want to visit in your dreams?” She was curious about this as it had not occurred to her to use her version of this device to do this. She had not told Nicholas about her version of the QRR nor had she told him of the extent of her research in this yet. She wanted to see what he knew first so as to see if he was finding the same things she was. She did not want to influence his expectations and therefore skew the research. She felt it better if one party to this research remained unaware of the findings up to this point of the other so that as needed she could fill in the blanks, so to speak.

“There is another way to establish a stronger link to each other to gain more assurance that we will be able to maintain the connection.” Nicholas was thinking about physical interaction with Samantha in such a way as to establish a bond that could be used to locate each other across dimensions. The problem was how to approach Samantha with this since they really did not know each other too well yet and he did not want to seem like the typical male putting the make on a beautiful woman.

“I know what you are thinking, Nicholas. I see it too. We have to make love and become intimate in order to establish a strong bond. I hope this is what you were thinking.” Samantha felt she had put herself out on a limb. She had a strong attraction to Nicholas, but she did not know if his attraction was anything more than just a man’s attraction to a beautiful woman. She had to trust that he genuinely cared not only for the research but for her as well.

Nicholas coughed. This caught him off balance. He began to wonder the same things Samantha was wondering about. “Well, I guess you and I are thinking the same thing. But I don’t want you to think there is any ulterior motive to this…..... “ Nicholas was cut off by Samantha suddenly taking him in her arms and kissing him fully on the mouth.

“OK, I guess that settles that!” Nicholas said with short breaths. He was incredibly turned on. He never thought Quantum research could be so enjoyable. He was thinking many things at the same time. How would they continue the research from here? Would it be possible to maintain a relationship with this wonderful woman across dimensions? Would they even be able to find each other again after he had to leave?

It was then that Samantha saw Nicholas just disappear right before her eyes. She had seen this before as Nicholas and her had met before as he and she experimented with their respective quantum devices, but this time she felt a pang of alarm as she realized that it could be that they would not see each other again.

“Nicholas!” she shouted and then realized he could not hear her.

Nicholas awakened in his bed with the most wonderful feeling. He remembered everything from the dream and knew what he had to do. He got up and hurried down to the lab, not even bothering to shower. He was obsessed now. He began to program the QRR to simulate Samantha’s world. He thought about how it had been to be there and how it felt to have been in the presence of Samantha. As he began to see the reality forming he then began to concentrate on how it felt to be in Samantha’s arms and how it felt to feel her lips on his.

As the reality took shape and began to have the feel of reality he found himself back in Samantha’s world. It seemed like the same place where he and Samantha had last been together but she was not there. He felt elated and despondent at the same time. He wondered how much this would help him find her once he was asleep and dreaming again.

As he was thinking about this he decided to explore this reality by walking around and noting what he saw. He intended to compare his notes with what he saw the next time he was there. He figured he had a few hours before he would be tired enough to sleep again so he might as well do as much as he could to further establish a bond to this world.

As he was walking around he thought he heard someone following him. He could not see anyone near him, but there did seem to be others in the distance. He was in what seemed to be the same park like setting where he and Samantha had been talking just an hour or two earlier. He remembered that there seemed to be no one else around then, but that could have been because he was so focused on Samantha.

Then suddenly he heard Samantha’s voice.
“Nicholas!” Samantha shouted with joy. “Nicholas, how did you come back so quickly?”

Nicholas was overjoyed to see her and ran to her, taking her in his arms and kissing her fondly. He told her about how he programmed the QRR to simulate the place and time they had been talking earlier. Samantha listened with rapt attention.

“Nicholas, it’s time to tell you that I have been doing much more experimenting with this than I have let on. I had already come to the conclusion that a strong bond between two people would help them to focus the effects of the QRR to enable them to establish a connection between dimensions. I needed to guide you to the same conclusion so the energy would be pure without any unwanted side effects.”

“So you knew, or at least had reason to believe, that this would work?” Nicholas asked.

“Yes! And now that we have this established I believe that we will be able to be together whenever we want. This will make it much easier for us to collaborate on our work. With what I have found and what you have found we should be able to open doors to other dimensions which we will be able to visit at will.” Samantha was getting very excited.

Nicholas was thinking fast. “So we have primed the pump, so to speak. We can now establish connections to other dimensions and find out about other realities and share our realities with those in these other realities. This will be a great adventure. Are you ready for it?”

“Let’s go, Nicholas. I can’t think of a better way to spend my life. What a way to live. There are so many possibilities. Let’s record our adventures in any and all ways we can. There is so much we can do to help our respective people enhance their lives while we have so much fun in the process!”

So Nicholas and Samantha looked forward to embarking on a lifelong journey exploring and connecting many different dimensions and realities. They were overjoyed not only by the prospects of this collaboration, but the new found relationship they had established with each other.

Just then the power went out in the QRR. Nicholas found himself standing in the bare surroundings of the room as it is when it is not being used to create some scenario. He at first was alarmed, but then realized that all he had to do is dream.
