The Times Square Ball - All About the Ball Drop On New Year's Eve

Just before midnight on New Year's Eve, hundreds of millions of eyes are on the ball that drops from the top of a pole at One Times Square. Here's the official place where you can learn all about the famous Times Square ball: who designs and makes it, what it's made of, how the ball-drop tradition started, the history of the event, and even how this year's ball is more environmentally friendly than in the past.

As you'll learn, this new Waterford Crystal ball has state-of-the-art LED lighting effects and is twice as bright as the old one, even though it uses less energy. So this New Year's Eve the ball drop will be brighter and more festive than ever, while being "greener."
