The Title To Your Treasure
posted May 27, 2008 - 12:27amI’ve only been here for a couple of days now, and I’ve seen a lot of posts about how to increase your odds of making money on this site. I’ve seen a lot of talk about how to do this, and you need to do that, but one thing I’ve noticed is that most of you, (not all), need to work on your titles.
Now, I can only speak for myself, but after spending the past couple years in the blogging world I can tell you straight out that most people won’t read your stuff unless the title reaches out and grabs them. No, I don’t always pick the best titles either, and I know that. But if you want more people to stop by and read your work, you have to make the WANT to read your work.
You can write the best article ever produced, but if you’re title sucks, how many people are going to take the time to find out how good it is? Very few. Yes, there are always those who will stop by, but if you want the big numbers, you’ve got to work for it. A killer title will always bring in more people.
Think of it this way. If you come across a story about a gum chewing dancer, would you rather see a title like “Dancer Chews Gum On Stage”, or “Bubble Blowing Babe on Broadway”? They both say the same thing, but one is flashier than the other and will bring in more readers. It’s amazing how many people will scan through a list of titles looking for something that sparks their attention.
If you can create a title that will make people want to know more about the article, you will increase your chances of making more money, and in turn, they’ll increase their chances. It’s a win-win situation. Give it a shot and see if it works for you. After all, we all want the numbers, and we all want something great to read.
