The Truth about Varicose and Spider Veins

According to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, spider and varicose veins in women can be caused by different number of factors. These includes hormone fluctuations, age, heat, obesity, type of occupation, wearing high heeled shoes.

Considering the factors stated above, varicose and spider veins may be inevitable for some people. Although inevitable, there are suggested preventive measures given by Dr. Robert Weiss the president elect of the ASDS. This preventive measures may diminish the appearance and pain associated with these vein conditions.

Dr. Robert Weiss has suggested the following advice:

-Thought varicose and spider veins are of cosmetic concern, this may lead to problems such as night cramps, fatigue, leg swelling, and itching around the area of the veins. It is advise to consult a dermasurgeon if ever such problems exist
- move your legs to boost circulation. When you are standing or sitting for quite a long time, there is much pressure on the legs and less circulation. Moving them will boost circulation and reduces pressure.
- Weight control is also important. When you are overweight, there is more pressure in your legs. This can cause veins to surface.
- Compression stocking can help elevate pressure to the veins. As much as possible avoid restrictive clothing. This will restrict circulation in the waist, legs and groin area and lead to varicose and spider veins.
- Avoid exposing your legs to excessive heat. When you soak yourself in hot bath or hot tub, your veins will swell and this may lead to blood pooling.

It is best to consult a doctor when dealing with varicose and spider veins problems. This would be the best option. Sometimes self medication can be dangerous.

Solutions help, but not majorly

I had ugly varicose veins and got the surgical injection for them. It diminished them somewhat, but not majorly. It was very painful though. Luckily my insurance covered it because they were causing a health problem in me, but normally it is considered cosmetic and can be expensive if it is not a true health condition.
