The Voting Mystery
posted May 26, 2008 - 9:56amNow that the mystery of the yellow box has been revealed to the Xomba users, a new dilemma faces them. The voter’s dilemma (Apologies to Binkdonk). I have been wanting to do this for some time, but I thought people would only see jealousy as the reason behind the post. But now that my article is on the top, I don’t have to worry about it.
What and who do we vote for? Are we going to be responsible xombizens and vote for something we truly like? Or are we going to emulate what we do in politics? One thing is for certain, being mouse-click happy is not the answer and neither is jealousy.
Typically I have found people voting for following reasons:
First and the most legitimate: Good writing – This site is meant for writing, at least the Xombytes are. Any article, which is not well written, ought not to be voted for since the author is going to get a false feeling of having achieved superior writing skills and will never bother to improve. Conversely a well-written article needs to be appreciated so that others read and try to emulate it. Having well written articles on the front page are good advertisement for the quality of the website’s patrons.
Second: Good Idea; food for thought : In this fast paced life, there are many things we do not think about, or think about when we don’t have time to do anything about it or have always wondered why. Something that stimulates your mind, a new concept, innovation something you wish you had done. Vote for such things.
Third : differing opinion : Unless the writing is good, beats me why people would want to vote for something which does not match with their own convictions and thoughts.
Fourth: similar opinion : Again, unless the writing is good it is like voting for someone who endorses your opinion about your spouse (especially the negative part)
Fifth: Starry dreams of $$$ : Someone claimed earlier that he was making $25 – 30 a day just after posting 7 blurbs & 4 bytes in a little over a week. I can understand that such information brings up the morale of the community and they continue to strive hard. But what are you voting for, encouraging the author! Dude he/she has already made enough, they don’t need encouragement, you are the one who needs it. I am mentioning this because one needs to be wary of the boasters. Such inflated numbers will in all probability deflate you faster than you can imagine when you see you are getting nowhere near the mark. Let us see if every user makes $ 50 dollars every day. Taking a meager user base of 10, Xomba would make $500 a day and $15,000 a month. That makes Xomba’s annual income to be $1,80,000. If it were indeed possible, Xomba would simply employ eight more people and do all the work themselves. Save so much on overheads.
Sixth: Wasted so much time reading the article: Unlike some other websites who have a button for burying or killing the post, there is no negative voting allowed on Xomba. So what does one do after reading the post. Just click the damn plus sign and move on.
Seventh: Saved so much time since I did not have to read the Xomba Getting Started, Setting Up Adsense, Make Money Guide, FAQ, Contests and Xomba's Rules. Many people don’t bother to read the Xomba menu and the detailed instructions given therein and anybody who does and posts the same information seems like a God’s gift to the Xomba users.
Eighth: My buddy : Okay I don’t have any evidence but it would be a very silly and funny reason to vote.
Ninth: The author is begging for votes: Well, fame has its charm and everyone does and should aspire for the top, but begging or canvassing for it, is something which does not jell. I remember someone doing it even more seriously than Hillary and Obama.
Tenth: Even now, What the hell is this + sign?
Next time think before you vote, be fair. It is not about individuals, it is about the community. Don't let people sell trash in any way. Try out the referred sites before you start endorsing it by voting. You can always come back and vote. Don't fall for the dollar dreams. Most of them are exercises in self-glorification or just referral stunts.
