The worst/funniest commercial ever to grace my TV set.
The worst/funniest commercial ever to grace my TV set.
A few days ago, I was watching some good wholesome comedy central, when this commercial came on advertising this seemingly exciting new product-the "Shamwow." It seems to be an industrial paper towel-the type that mechanics use to clean up nasty spills and the like, but this one is far, far, better as you can see in the commercial, partly because it is "made in Germany, and you know the Germans always make good stuff."
Honest to God, I thought this was a joke commercial, and was entirely convinced it was such until minutes after the commercial ended. It is just too wrong to be true. Seriously, a few take home lessons for any future commercial makers out there:
The link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=bBF8w7knduI
1.) Unless you are very famous, the audience does not know you, don't try to trick us into thinking that we do know you. No, Vince, I have never seen you before, nor would I know that you are from Shamwow.
2.) Where in the world is this taped? A colorful cardboard box with a sticker logo taped on the wall?
3.) What kind of logo even is that? It is almost as if somebody just learned how to mix colors and letter stretch effects together, then sat on the keyboard and this logo came out.
4.) Please show evidence that Olympic divers use your product if they actually do.
5.) I very much like how he demonstrates the "vacuum action" by using a camera trick at about 41-55 seconds into the video. He douses the carpet with cola, leaving a very visible puddle under the piece, seen obviously at 41 seconds. Now watch at 48 seconds as he places the shamwow onto the carpet. Notice the lack of a puddle underneath the carpet? I especially like how he asks the cameraman if he is getting this. As if he is having a joke with himself thinking that we didn't see what just happened.
6.) What is up with the headset? Is he taking our urgent purchase orders as he is taping? Does his hair help the Shamwow absorb better?
Even while writing this, I still want to believe it is a farce, that somebody really did not think this would be a legitimate advertising method. But in a way, its ridiculousness only promotes discussion and word-of-mouth advertisement such as this post...So shame on me?
In any case, enjoy the video (posted at the beginning), and next time you spill some cola on your carpet, leave it there, just to spite Vince. And his misleading ways.

I've seen that commercial.
I've seen that commercial. It's such a scam. There's no way that little rag works as well as they make it seem.
