The Wrong Path
The Wrong Path
It seems today that everyone is caught in the rat race, no one has the time of day anymore. In a 24 hour day we spend eight hours at work, two driving and eight sleeping, leaving six hours left to collect your thoughts on life. This is becoming a very sad existence seeing that you may enjoy 20 years on an 80 year life span.
Why have we created a society where it permits six hours in a day to enjoy the absolute wonders the world and life have to offer? Don't you think life is a little to precious to be throwing 18 ours a day out the window? What can we do about this? These are the questions we as humankind need to start pondering.
Society needs a facelift for humankind is a miracle, life is a miracle, and we can't continue to watch time flow taking our short existence with it. We were not ment to live our lives in stress and worry but in peace, love, and understanding of our nature, but these things can't be acheived in our present society. Until we shift our focus to our connection with nature and each other we will be forever drifting through time never really understanding our purpose or being.
Matter has seized a grip on our conciousness, the hours we spend trying to obtain it has left our lives pointless, we will never truly understand our existence untill this bond is broken. I don't know how we may achieve this but I do know that it must be essential to mankind's true knowledge and understanding of our being.

Sleep is for wusses
Wow! you are right I am going to cut out sleep immediately - that'll give me 14 hrs a day to do what I want, plus 24 hrs on my days off. I'll have 118 hrs a week to take in life joys. What will I do with all that extra time. The thought of it is making me tired - I think I'll take a nap.
Would Love
to sit and ponder the meaning of life or the wonders of life for 16 - 18 hours. But how would I feed myself I wonder? So here I sit and ponder.
The wrong path?
I don't know about this... back in the days of rural life, people would work from sunup to sundown, then eat dinner, and go to bed, and wake up and do it all over again. And the work was backbreaking labor too, in many cases. Talk about a lack of free time.
Then came the Industrial Revolution, in which even children were working 12-hour days. Clothes were washed by hand, etc. ... again, lots of time spent on doing work and just basic daily activities.
People from these earlier era would love to have "just" 6 hours a day of free time!
These days more and more people are able to work from home, telecommute, start their own businesses, etc, much of it due to the Internet and other electronic communications.
The wrong path
Perhaps I should say that we have always lived a sad existence then. My point is we wake up and go to bed every day of our lives not really knowing the point or purpose to it all.
Should we not be striving to answer this question rather than drifting through time till our time is up?
I mean maybe we all have our own purpose, but the way we live and I guess always have doesn't allow us to realize it. How can we possibly realize a purpose while we are tightly held in society's grip?
Six hours of free time is also overstating the truth, because afterwork there is always more work to be done. Now you say back then things were harder and took longer, but today there is far more to do, maybe this balances it out but either way we barely have a chance to breath these days. My opinion only of course.
Life
Even back in the old days, many people would find happiness in life. If a person is relatively happy with what they do for a living, and has a good family life, friends, etc., then they are getting more satisfaction out of life than just their 6 or so hours of official 'leisure time.'
As as champagnedreams says, one has to work to provide for oneself (and family, if there is one)-- what's the alternative, unless one is wealthy? I guess one could try to marry into wealth, or take shortcuts to obtaining wealth (like illegal trade).
People today need to look at their priorities, I think... look at all the things they 'have' to do, and decide which of these they really 'need' to do, and cut out ones that aren't necessary or really bring them enjoyment. The average American watches a fair amount of TV... if that amount was reduced, that would free up more time to do other things.
Agree With Idlewild
If we can overcome the basic necessities, then we can look at alternate means of living. And most of us are happy with our jobs, our family, our friends - there are of course good days and bad days but if the good outweighs the bad, then we are reasonably happy. Would you really know if you were happy if you did not have sad days too?
