There are those who read history and there are those who make history. Which are you?

There are those who read history and there are those who make history. Which are you?

I'll admit it. I'm a history buff. I love to read about history. I also love to write. That got me thinking, so here I am posing the question to you the reader.

There are those who read history and there are those who make history. Which are you?< p>

"What does that have to do with writing?" you ask. Well, let me tell you something about history. If you consider all of the boring, dry history class lectures you've been given in school and if you consider the hundreds of hours you spent memorizing names and dates and places until your head spun and your eyes drooped, you know what it is like to be tortured with a poor teaching of history. But, if you stop to think for a minute: was life really that boring in the past? The answer is no! For those of you who answered "yes", let me ask you this: is your life boring today? If someone were to study your life at some point in the future, would their eyes glaze over? It doesn't have to be that way.

Which brings me to the point of this article. The past--not unlike what you and I are experiencing today in our own lives--was full of opportunities and choices. People back then could choose to go through their lives reading about what other people have done then sit back and let life pass them by, dying in relative anonymity. Or they could have been filled with Pioneer Spirit and gone out and made history happen for themselves. Those pioneers didn't just sit around moping that their lives sucked or that what their efforts were not being rewarded. No! They made sure history remembered their names.

When you log onto Xomba each morning, you have one of two choices. You can choose to be like those poor souls who let life pass them by and post a stale rehash of what other people have already posted in an unoriginal attempt to make a buck or two. OR, you can fill your creative soul with Pioneer Spirit and write passionate articles on new and exciting things, making history come alive for your reader.

History only remembers the names of those who stood apart from the crowd. Let us make Xomba a place where readers can come and be entertained and informed and look forward to being here. Let us strive to be different, be ourselves and focus on original content instead of becoming carbon copy quitters in life. I choose to have history remember me kindly--do you?

There are those who read history and those who make history. Which are you?

I've always been past-minded

As far back as I can remember, I've preferred reading about what happened in the past over Sci-Fi themed books. I can spend hours examining old maps and satellite photographs of areas I know well, thinking of how life must have been back then. Having grown up in the San Fernando Valley in LA, I really enjoyed the movie Chinatown which dealt with that area back before it was developed. The funny thing is, like you I didn't particularly enjoy math. I did go as far as Trigonometry, but every year past Algebra I saw my grades slip for each new type. Thanks for your comments--I've always believed that writing from the heart made for better, more interesting stories. ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING

I too am a History Buff

I love reading history and knowing about things from our past. I got all A's in history class way back about 40 years ago. I still love history and delving into it. Yes I believe I have made history as well in my life. I am a writer and have a lot of things from my life, that of my parents and grandparents, my children and now grandchildrens lives I am preserving and writing about. Human interest and life in general. History was never boring to me it was challenging and fun unlike Math.

Thanks to Nick and Co. for choosing my Xombyte, too! I like to read about new things or new takes on old things, which I try to incorporated into my writing. I have a wicked sense of humor--sometimes bordering on the sardonic--so I try to keep things light. This particular Xombyte was all flow directly from my creative subconscious. Some of my best work was produced when I felt my Muse talking and just let the words flow from my mind to my fingertips. Click here if you have something to say and want to get paid to say it!

Pioneer Spirit

Congrats on your front page listing! You mention "pioneer spirit" which is what I believe makes Xomba so fascinating - a magnet to writers and readers alike. Xomba gives the good writers an opportunity to blaze their own trail, lone ranger style, to be heard above the routine reposts and drivel. That's why I like reading your posts btw - always new material and always an interesting spin or angle!
