There is No Such Thing as Colorblind

We are born White, Black, Brown, Red, Yellow, and just about every other color beneath the rainbow. Throw in mixed ethnicities and you have quite a melange of colors. I'd say that is pretty gosh darn cool.

So, when a politician or someone who wants your money tells you that society should be colorblind, I say "No!" We spend millions of dollars in taxpayer money and allow our politicians to make terrible laws to make us "equal" on paper and to what avail? We are no closer to everybody being the same than we were on Day 1. What we've lost is productivity, freedom, liberties, and opportunities to work together.

I am a believer that we are all created equal and have equal rights and responsibilities. I do not believe that we are carbon copies of each other with different skin tones and gender bits. We have things we do well and things we may do okay, but not well. But, to say that person A is doing well at something and person B is not solely because person A or person A's ethnic group is "keeping him down" is faulty logic.

We are different and that's okay. Instead of wasting time and money to brainwash the world into believing that we are all exactly the same, we should be saying Vive le Difference! Let us celebrate our differences and look for what we have in common.

The idea that we must conform to whatever political movement decides for us is to betray our individuality. If you are a black person and you and I (as a white person) are working together on a work project, rather than pretend like we don't notice that we are different, let us acknowledge each other's individuality, at least subconsciously, and find the common ground that lets us work together.

Prejudice is based on fear. Pretending that fear doesn't exist only takes away our power to deal with it.

There is no point living in the past on either side of the issue

I used to be involved in racial nationalism and, while I did not hold any ill will toward other races, I actively "defended" my ancestry. There were several factors that caused me to "see the light" as far as my participation was concerned, but mostly it came down to wanting to put more energy into what I wanted (across-the-board equal rights and responsibilities) than in what I didn't want (discrimination against me and mine based solely on the color of my skin), which is all racial pride (regardless of flavor) is. Our ancestors should be honored, but we are not our ancestors. Those of us who are living in the present have the ability to live life for the Greater Good of all mankind. None of us can go back to the past to correct any perceived wrongs done by one group against another any more than any of us were alive hundreds of years ago to be either the perpetrators or the recipients of specific discrimination. If we all learn to live in the present and deal with our own lives first, we can evolve so much faster as a human species. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

Colorblind

I always got a kick out of the 'F#@& The Colorblind' T-Shirt which is printed like the test cards for colorblindness..I've seen it on T-Shirt Hell which has some really offensive t-shirts. There are a few that even make ME wince and wonder why they were ever even thought up, let alone put on a t-shirt, but some are funny.. As far as the race thing...well, it's kind of obvious there are different races, it's just how you deal with that knowledge that matters. What about stereotypes? There's a reason they exist and a reason why comedians love the topic..it's because they DO exist..but, then again..it's how you deal with that knowledge that matters. I'm of Eye-talian descent and I have never been offended by the Sopranos..Those people DO exist..I know, I grew up around some. The problem is not with portrayal, it's with education. Stereotypes and race are part of American heritage. We are the melting pot. So, racism is the domain of either the ignorant, uneducated and those of low intelligence quotients. Let me just add this because it is important

I am not saying that the darker side of race relations does not exist, but there are ways around it, from a Universal standpoint. We just have to decide what we want. If we want to live in a world of acceptance, then we must first be accepting. If we want to live in a world that races cooperate, then we must first cooperate with other races. The thing to remember is that we can only change ourselves. Once we start assigning characteristics and beliefs on other people, which especially includes negative labels, we run the risk of getting what we don't want. If you are a "minority" and carry a chip on your shoulder because "everyone around you is a racist" then you will sure-as-shootin' find yourself surrounded by racists. The Universe gives you what you ask for or what gets most of your energy. If you believe that people like you for who you are and that you get along with everybody, then the Universe will help make that your reality. Life is one big self-fulfilling prophecy. Race and culture

Race as a social construction is pretty obvious in the US with your classifications blacks, caucasians asians and so on. However, people placed within these constructed categories can actually be very racially different. However, there exists little doubt that there are racial differences between groups of people of different origins that to a certain degree predetermines certain human traits ,perhaps to a lesser degree behavior, but certainly physical abilities. Medical and genetic science depends on this fact.

You can't have "racism" without "race"

That is simple etymology, since you mentioned racism. If race doesn't exist, then neither can racism. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

I disagree.

People are different. That's a biological fact. It is when you start saying one race or another is BETTER that you run into racist thinking. I can take a tribesman from Africa and spray paint him with white paint and I can take a hockey player from Canada and spray paint him with black paint and you would still be able to tell which one is actually black and which one is actually white. That's a simple biological difference, one of many. That's neither good nor bad. It just is. Even within the same races, there are differences. East African runners tend to do better at distance running and West African runners tend to do better at running events that involve the need for speed. Acknowledging that people are different is not racist or bigoted. It is the belief that people who mention it are somehow evil that creates fear in our society that stops mankind from moving forward. I definitely disagree with the idea that the reason people fail at something is because of their skin color. People are born with different inherent abilities and skills and have different backgrounds going into the job. That goes the same within and without the same ethnic groups. That's why people may suck at one vocation and change to something that suits them perfectly, where they can excel. To say that the reason some people don't do well at something is somehow the fault of white people even when white people are nowhere near involved, which seems to be the theme of your last paragraph, is illogical but often serves as the basis for most arguments that blame external factors when it is something internal that is at fault. Talking about "race" vs. "ethnicity" or "culture"

Do you understand the difference between "race" and "culture"? It's really hard to tell which one you're talking about, here. "Race" is the theory that human beings come in different "breeds" with genetically predetermined tendencies, behaviors, and abilities. "Culture" is a collection of social traditions associated with a certain group of people living in community. The theories of race have largely been based upon differences which are actually cultural. "Ethnicity" is just a term that refers to a person's genetic background and doesn't really mean much unless you're relating it to either culture or race.
