Daniel Day Lewis plays Daniel Plainview, a salt of the earth prospector who gets lucky with a bit of gold and turns it into an oil business. There isn’t much dialog during the first 15 minutes, which is hardly noticeable, because Daniel Day Lewis could win an Oscar for a grimace.

What is the plot? Plainview is looking for oil and he will do anything to get it. He makes a point to be at his drilling operations even with his distaste for other people. He struggles with land leases, family and a peculiar preacher. The preacher, Eli Sunday, is played by Paul Dano from Little Miss Sunshine. Watching Plainview and Sunday go at each other is comical at times and you wonder who will come out on top. Along the way Plainview faces challenges with his family and the local church.

This is a Miramax film so you know it will be a little different.

What about that title? There Will Be Blood. Is it in reference to the oil, as in oil is the blood of the earth, and this movie is about an oil baron. I think it could be as simple as there will be blood in the last scene. I loved the last line too. He might as well have said, The End. Definitely worth renting for something a little different.
