these books are banned from schools

the practice of burning books is very emotional to me since I have a degree in library science. I'm not sure I could make it through a book burning .

Although many of these books were banned for valid reasons, it is important to realize that they are still a part of history. Instead of Banning them completely maybe they should be stored in a restricted section of the library. After an explanation of why a book was banned or questioned, patrons should be allowed to read the book in the library, or borrow it for a limited period of time.

It is interesting to note that many of these books were on required reading lists not so many years ago.

The adventures of huckleberry Finn and the adventures of Tom Sawyer

Both of these were banned from schools because they contain too much racially charged language

I can personally attest to

I can personally attest to all of these being at your local Borders store except In the Night Kitchen. Never heard of that one, but if its in print its probably there. Half of them are on summer reading lists as well, so they're definitely still being taught somewhere. "Thank you for driving carefully through the villiage." That's what the sign says.

They were banned at one

They were banned at one time, but most of those listed are fine these days. We have the Waldo series on the rack for our preschoolers.

It should be added to the

It should be added to the List. This is by no means a comprehensive list, that would be way too long to post anywhere and could take up an entire site. I read most of these books and they were required reading when I was in high school. They are part of history and should be available for people to read if they want. They reflect the was going on at the times they were written.

Wow

At what point can you not teach about these things? I could see that these may not be appropriate for elementary students but I would definitely find most of these books mandatory reading for high school students. I can remember reading most of these books. Sad. How is Lord of the Flies not on here?
