For Those Hounding Salesmen Out There...Leave Us Be!

For Those Hounding Salesmen Out There...Leave Us Be!

Shopping is always an experience. But shopping at the time of the holidays is not just an experience...it's a nightmare...

Well, there's those pesky other customers that cause so much of the strife. I want to walk faster than they do, and they always seem to want to get in front of whatever I'm trying to get to. If I need help from an employee, you can bet they do too. And they are going to beat me to that help...

But, every once in a while you go in one of these stores where the employees actually outnumber the customers. Maybe they work on commission. Maybe they are just bored. Maybe the company beats them over the head to be irritating. But, you know what I mean, it's the "hounding salesman." Or it could be the "hounding saleswoman." Don't want to leave anyone out?

They are hovering over you, offering suggestions. Telling stories about their products. Explaining obvious things. Watching, waiting, panting at the chance to sell you anything.

I can't stand anything less than someone watching over my shoulder to see what I'm looking at. Just give us a break...we'll let you know if we need help...

Thanks for reading...

Hounding Salesperson

The business side notwithstanding, I still feel it's about human decency sometimes... a simple "How Ya Doing?" with a smile, but staying at a distance would be more than ample to let the customer know that you are willing to help... Keeping up a presence goes a lot farther than the harassment that makes me just want to leave the store as fast as I can... In case you didn't know, I work in retail at this cursed time of year, but I still know how to make my customers happy and wanted... Happy Holidays!!

I'd fault the store not the employees for those "assaults"

A tactic used by some store managers is to hire extra staff on commission to save salary space. If someone is going to agree to those terms and needs the job like everyone else, of course there is going to be competition for each customer and sale. Circuit City, when I used to shop there maybe 15 years ago, was notorious for having sales staff steal customers and sales. A salesman could give you all the information you needed to know about, say, a car stereo system, match you up with the best stereo and speakers, and do his best to give you quality service. If you went back the next day intending to buy that system, but he was off for the day, his coworkers would not lose any sleep over consummating the sale and stealing what should have been his commission. That's why I stopped shopping there. If you don't want to deal with that store tactic, you can either take your business elsewhere or shop online. In this economy, stores who care about their bottom line are going to hire more season commish-only staff, not less. JOIN XOMBA IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO ADD!

Christmas Shopping Sucks

Just had another incident just like this in my hometown...out at the mall, and the commission-sniffing salesman wouldn't back down... he won't give me a second's peace... Sound off and let the retail establishments know that some of us just prefer to not be swayed by salesperson chatter Happy holidays!!
