Thoughts on the Beijing Olympics?
posted April 11, 2008 - 8:47pmJust flipping though the news one day I noticed that there was some sort of unrest going on in Tibet. I didn't quite understand what was going on, but as a quirky and curious person I sought to investigate these recent happenings. After doing some hefty research, I was shocked to learn of the human rights abuses in Tibet. China has sent soldiers and armored vehicles into a country that should have been granted its independence. Tibet has a world recognized leader, the Dalai Lama, who is an ambassador of peace and compassion. Tibet was also once an independent kingdom. In the 1950's Tibet was invaded by Communist China and to this day the people have been oppressed under Maoist rule. The Olympics are about compassion and friendship and seeing how China treats Tibetan people shows they have no mercy or care. We as citizens of free countries should have our voices heard. Protest the unfair treatment of the Tibetans and boycott the Beijing Olympics!
