A Time and a Place for Everything
posted July 4, 2009 - 2:03amI've always been the get it done now now now type. I hate waiting for things to happen. Actually it pisses me off when things DON'T happen in the timely manner that I believe they should. But lately I've had to humble myself... I've had to look at what happens when I move on something too soon and the consequences of those actions. This is what I call the PIG effect (PIG=Problem of Immediate Gratification), which refers basically to wanting results before actual work has been put in. Well to summarize what I mean, things just don't go the way I want them to when I jump so fast. Turns out I gotta make sure the 'chute is strapped to my back nice and tight before I leap out the airplane head first. And sometimes it feels like I do forget to do that. I guess it's ok though cause everyone needs to hit the ground hard and be humbled once-in-awhile. Everyone needs to go through some sort of crisis in order to grow. In fact everything that happens to us is in some way a crisis. A crisis that we can use to propel ourselves forward onto the next important chapter of our lives, or that can set us back entirely. And whether this is a so-called bad crisis or something that seems worthily challenging, it still helps us to grow mentally and emotionally into the person we are today. So now I'm learning that the best things actually take place when you're patient. Like the bible says: "good things come to those who wait." Although it really doesn't have to be waiting... just taking baby steps. Not jumping from the bottom of the stairs to the top in a single bound. Step by calculated step. And I've also learned that there's a time and season for everything: the people we meet, the places we go, the changes we go through... In due season these come together the way they're meant to. Just like in due season broken hearts are healed, tears are dried and that which was shattered is mended.

excellent post
I loved the way you put everything into perspective with the example of jumping off an airplane without the chute....! That's what we all do at times, and land hard on our heads, or backs and break our bones, hearts and everything else that can be broken....relationships, for one!

I really appreciated this post. God's timing is always perfect, even when His clock seems a little slower than ours. Thanks for sharing!
