Time Magazine's Top Ten Games of the Year
posted January 3, 2007 - 1:15amOk First off before I go and start ranting about these picks let me ask a simple question...When did Time start writing about Video Games? Anyways let me show you the Top 10...
10) Bully-Ps2
9) Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy-Ps2,Gamecube, Xbox, Xbox 360
8) Guitar Hero 2-Ps2
7) Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis-Xbox 360
6) Prey- PC, Xbox 360
5) Resistance: Fall of Man-PS3
4) Legend of Zelda, Twilight Princess-Wii, Gamecube
3) New Super Mario Bros.-DS
2) Gears of War-Xbox 360
1) Wii Sports-Wii
Ok so a quick break down for those who care. Bully for PS2, this is a great game I believe. An old approach for Rockstarwith a different twist. Now it is not the same opinion as others but I believe this is a better game to release to the public than there normal Grand Theft Autos, more low key on certian aspects but still asertaining the old school styl of beating up random people and running away from the man(prefects in this case). Lego Star Wars is up next with the loveable style of brick graphics and amazing puzzle fun. A great game to get that shows us two different worlds, Legos and Star wars, but a top 10 of the year? Hmmmm.
Guitar Hero is next on the list, Harmonix and Red Octane did one of the toughest things in the gameing industry and turned it into in demad game. That tough thing is to create a 2nd party device and actually make more than 2 in demand games for it. For example the DDR mat, Konga Kongos(gamecube), Running pad, etc. Nice choice for the top ten. Now I have not played these next few games so I will wiz by them and let you the reader add them in or comment about them. Rock star Table Tennis?? in the Top 10??? you got to be kidding me right? Must have some awesome features...now Prey and Resistance:Fall of man i have seen previews and clips of and I must say it could be the start of something yet to come in the graposhics department. Now Twilight Princess, there is a site to behold. Great game and awesome story, very much a fan boy/girl game. If you love the style of Ocarane of Time and Windwaker you'll die over this game, still playing it by the way. Then New Super Mario for the DS, was a good game and all but again the top 10? Then Gear of Wars again I have seen much about it and looks great, but I do not own a 360 so....
And finally Wii Sports at number one, yes I know a lot of people are upset at this but I infact welcome the decision of this very simple yet massivly entertaing game givern to you free when buying a Wii. This game has done something a video game console has not done since I don't know how long. It aimed its target at every type of individual rather it be gamer or parent. For once in my life I can go to my dad and ask "Up for a game of bowling?" And he will already be picking up the controller before I have a chance to finish my sentence. This game show us the new path, a path of interactive games, a path of games that everyone can play and be interested in. This is Wii sports.
One last thing, I am upset somewhat at some of these choices in games, For instance Final Fantasy 12 should have been on this list, an amazing RP game for the PS2 that stuns the player with amazing graphics and music and an interesting story(might get lost once or tiwce but you can pick it back up again). Another couple of games on the top of my head like Kingdom Hearts 2, Big Brain Acadamy, and le us not forget Oblivion(I still can not believe this did not gian the top 5 slot with it's amazing computer AI, amazing story line and customizable character. Very innovative and should not have bee passed up).
