If I told you life wasn't a stream. And that it happens in one great pulse in an instant. And that an instant is eternity. Would you read any further? If you are reading this sentence, then I guess the answer is yes. There is reflections of what I am about to suggest in literature and movies. Its already out there. Read on and think about it when you are finished.

Time exists only in consciousness. When you sleep, time looses its effect on your awareness even if it still effects your body. It is known that your body has many layers of consciousness. It isn't all sleeping when you sleep. There is a part of your brain that still functions as though you are not asleep while you sleep. Your body still reacts to external stimulus as so on. It is safe to say that sleep can not free your body from time and its effects but it will free your consciousness from time's effects. And that is key for your spirit to remain eternal.

Your life events all exist simultaneously. Everything you can know you already know from conception to death. All details of events is known to you at the spirit level. Your conscious awareness is a pulse and is one of many pulses. Consider for the sake of conception a circular tube. There are many lights along the inside of this tube. The lights burn bright then do not burn. Your consciousness is as though one where to flash each light once all the way around the tube. You could track the movement easily that way. The pulse would represent one aware state of mind. In each pulse there can only be one individual light lit and unlit at one time in progression. Each light represents every second of your awareness. Now add a second pulse right behind the first. Then another and another until it appears that the whole tube is lit. What you have is a distinct awareness every second of your life. Although that awareness functions independently from itself, it is all simultaneously available to your spirit. It all exists at the same time all at once.

Now that you have an understanding of that, I will veer in a new direction. To access the spirit within of which has the knowing of you in your entirety, all that is required is a sensitivity to yourself. Sounds easy doesn't it. It can be easy. First you have to learn you from the inside and forget about what you have learned of yourself from the outside. Accept that everything you believe of yourself is given to you by every person who has ever entered your awareness. You are vulnerable to what ever you have ever been compared to all life long. With what it is you have been compared and measured by comes expectations and identity. The world-shaped you is further developed by how you handle those expectations. That equals a more cemented outside world-version of you. That is not you. You are something so much greater then that. Don't sit back and think of reasons why you are not greater. That is a message learned out there as well...'you are only you'. Nonsense! You are the greatest thing that can be. Never lose track of that. I agree that we must be the things we pretend to be to function and play out our roles in this world. You can still be more then that. I urge you to develop a relationship with your spirit to enhance the worldly experience. Then you truly walk with grace.

Let me tell of how I interact with spirit. I see a very old man on a rocking chair. He sits looking straight ahead with clear blue eyes. He is rocking in a chair on an old fashion porch. I see him clearly when I calm the noise in my head and breath deep and naturally. That old man is my oldest self. He is I. I can walk up the stairs and sit in an empty chair beside him and ask him anything. He has never steered me wrong. He always answers with a confident voice. What he tells isn't always what I want to hear but I heed it anyway. Even when I don't see the wisdom in what he says I know it will become evident soon enough. Sometimes he talks in dreams. Sometimes those dreams aren't while I lay in bed. They are vivid daydreams that snatch me away and return me a little wiser to myself. The more I talk with this spirit, the easier it becomes. I can make no mistakes in life when my spirit guides me. It is up to you to find your way to self. It is another thing I urge you to do; Find your spirit and talk with it. The spirit and mind are not often allies until you unite them. Make friends of them. It is never too late to do so.

As to the question of why would it be that way? Why not? What better a way to experience life. It is the 'ing' part of anything you do that is alive. Breathing, Thinking, Doing, Living...the list goes on. I think you get the picture. Understand how time works and how it can help you. Be aware of yourself from within and know how great you are. You can not make mistakes. It is impossible. Everything you do is done. Make friends of your spirit self and mind self. Be confident and despite how you have learned it may seem, life is indeed eternal. Live it and love it.
