Tips for Buying Best Seller Indigo Books
In any Canadian city you will not be far from Indigo Books and whether your taste is for the modern blockbuster or for rare books, you can be assured that your search will be successful. This bookstore now actually stocks and sells a great deal more than just books, but at its inception, in 1996, it was purely that, a bookstore, called Indigo Books. It expanded quickly to become Indigo Books, Music and More by 1997.The only real competition in Canada to Indigo Books was Chapter Inc. and the takeover of this book company, in 2001, cleared the way for Indigo Books to expand its horizons. The founder of the company is Heather Reisman, McGill educated businesswoman and popular speaker. At a time in her life when one career ended, she sought a means of galvanising herself with a new venture. Her own passion for reading and a love of music were integrated into her founding of Indigo and her avowed goal is to make the company into a worldwide book and music retailer. Indigo Books has already expanded well beyond being simply a bookshop and now has its own website through which it also sells toys and magazines, DVDs, CDs and gifts. These items are available in the Indigo Books stores, as well as online.
The Indigo Trusted Advisor Program was created so that medical experts in different fields could review and recommend books to consumers, who would thus be enabled to make informed choices. The program has recently been enlarged and there are now available reviews on material written about the environment and geopolitical subjects. The “Love of Reading Fund” was begun in 2005. This program aims to assist deprived elementary schools with reading and learning material. It is hoped that this assistance will boost literacy levels. Annually, over $1.5 million is made available through the fund to schools throughout Canada, raised partly from fundraising by the recipient schools themselves.Indigo Books and Music, Inc. is one of Canada s top employers, with a present employment level of over 6000 people. Staffs employed by the company enjoy training programs and attractive reward schemes.
Scholarships are also offered so that Indigo Books is an appealing career choice in Canada and the nationwide chain often has several branches in one city. Toronto, for example, has three stores. The book selection is immense and diverse as are the music choices, magazines and videotapes. Tables and chairs offer comfortable browsing areas. Children are not overlooked, with their own vast selection of material and special programs are arranged for them.Visits by popular authors are regular events at the bookstores, which are mostly open late, even till midnight.
