Tips for travelling in London
posted September 13, 2009 - 9:37amWhen travelling in London, it can be very difficult at the best of times. The tube is hot and stuffy, and you can quite quickly feel rather unwell.
I’ve put together my top 5 tips for keeping yourself safe and healthly whilst travelling around London.
- Keep a bottle of water with you at all times. – This is often one of the most overlooked factors in London, a small bottle of water can help reduce your body temp., and as a result can help you survive on the tube, especially on the deeper parts of the network.
- If you can get a seat, then use it! It doesn’t matter who you are sat next to on the tube or the buses in London, if you don’t have to stand up, then your body can recover, and you will feel refreshed when you get off!
- f you are drinking then make sure you have your mobile with you, and that it is fully charged. Make sure you tell someone where you are going, who you will be with, and what time you expect to be back. Ask that person to call you if you don’t let them know you’ve gotten home. – If there is any sign of trouble, then don’t hesitate to call the police. You could be saving someones life and stopping a crime being committed!
- Take something with you to read, your phone with your emails, or a newspaper, almost all tube stations in London have some form of free newspaper outside that you can pick up on your way into the tube, and you can normally do the same close to a bus stop!
- Finally, it is not customary in London for people to talk to each other on the Tube or the Bus, many people in London do not talk to each other in order to ensure that they do not offend anyone else. Whilst anyone who lives outside of London may find this weird and unusual, please follow this rule, as in some extreme cases you may put yourself in danager by attempting to engage in conversation with someone.
What do you think? Do you have any additional tips for surviving on the public transport system in London?
