‘Tis the Season for Giving and Taking: Get Rid of Clutter this Season
posted December 14, 2007 - 1:44pmOnce the packages have been opened and the new gifts shared, consider removing clutter before adding the new goodies.
To better excise the clutter apply the Use Rules
Number of Uses
If you have not used or worn an item that year, get rid of it. An article clothing,
small appliance, or toy unused for a year serves no purpose other than to take up valuable space.
Appearance of Use
Threadbare, ripped or stained items need to either be repaired of junked. Sort these items determine the keepers, if any. Create a timetable for repair or reupholstry and stick to it. If the items are meaningful, treat them with kindness.
Family Affair
Clean out closets, attics and storage rooms, yes, but also kitchen, baths and toy chests. Involve children in the purge. Help them choose gently used toys and clothes for less-fortunate families. For items you plan to sell, have kids help with a yard sale.
Healthy and Happy
Besides taking up space, clutter can lead to health problems due to excess dust and mold. A holiday purge keeps homes neat and clean.
Ring in the New Year with a newly organized home. Banish clutter as part of Christmas past and start a new holiday tradition.
