Tom Cruise is terrified a collaboration with best friend Will Smith will jeopardize his career, and hence refuses to act alongside, 'I am legend' star. He dreads being upstaged.

Smith has sent Cruise several scripts as the two have been often expressing their desire to work together, but Cruise backs off on each of them. Tom obviously sees Smith as a formidable competitor, and fears being compared with his friend if they collaborate. Smith however is quite aware of how Tom is and doesn't really care about his refusals and it ain't gonna blot on their friendship, says a source.
