Tom Petty is a Real American Treasure

It is incredibly hard to dispute the claim that Tom Petty's music transcends almost all musical boundaries. He's got enough of an edge to be considered Rock 'n' Roll, yet, he's mellow enough to be enjoyed by fans of Americana and Country music. As the most recent tour
of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers comes to an end, it is clear that at almost 58 years old, Petty still has it. If anything, Petty is better than ever.
After over 30 years of being in the music industry, his style and sound has become incredibly refined. Classics like, "Don't Come Around Here No More" and "Runnin' Down a Dream" actually sound better now than when they were originally recorded. At the same time, his other classics have such a warm and personal feel that it is difficult to not have an emotional attachment to them.
It is impossible to tell if Petty will continue recording and touring. His laid back style and approach to music means that he could hang it up tomorrow or record and tour until he dies. Regardless, Tom Petty is a true American treasure whose entire discography should be celebrated on a regular basis.
