According to the folks over at Trademork, Eidos Interactive has submitted an application for copyright protection of the name "Tomb Raider: Underworld". If the rumors are true, this will be the title of the eighth installment of the popular game series, which is currently being developed at Crystal Dynamics. Before now, the name had a working title of Tomb Raider 8.

This new game will be set in the Last Days of the Mayan Calendar (2012 for us) during which the line between our mortal world and the underworld will blur and some ancient, powerful nasties will cross into our domain. Sounds like a little Lara Croft workout, eh?

So far, the platforms for which this game will be released next year are PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3.
